Regenerative Injection Therapy (RIT)

RIT is useful for managing pain associated with:

  • Sprains and strains
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Repetitive motion injuries
  • Rotator cuff injuries
  • Chronic postural pain of the spine
  • Chronic spinal dysfunctions
  • Sacroiliac pain
  • Regenerative injection therapy (RIT) is useful for the relief of chronic musculoskeletal pain in patients for which conventional treatments such as physical therapy, joint manipulation, drug treatment, corticosteroid injections, and surgery have failed. Clinical success rates for the resolution of chronic pain and dysfunction with RIT (also know as prolotherapy) are 85% or more.

During treatment, a solution of dextrose, procaine, and B12 is injected into the affected ligament or joint.   Dextrose, a sugar, stimulates the healing response. Procaine, an anesthetic, increases circulation and breaks down into nutritive substances in the tissues. B12 provides additional healing nutrients.  For most patients, once-a-month treatments for three months are sufficient.

Often described as anti-aging medicine for the joints, RIT restores tissue health and function, encourages the deposit of new, better organized collagen, strengthens ligaments, stabilizes the joints, and reverses
conditions leading to the development of osteoarthritis.

RIT has been used by orthopedic, osteopathic, and naturopathic physicians since the 1950s and is practiced today at such medical facilities as University Hospital, The Mayo Clinic in Rochester, and Scripps Institute in California. It is endorsed by The American Academy of Pain Management for the treatment of chronic, unresolved musculoskeletal pain.
